Sports and leisure time in the UAE

When travelling throughout the world or throughout time there are different sports and different ways of spending leisure time going to be found. These sports have different natures and practiced at different ways. The UAE is one of the countries that show different types of sports , which can’t be found in other countries throughout the world , or practiced in ways that differ from they are practiced in different other countries . Time also decides the way that some of today’s sports in the country are practiced. For example the different sports of camel racing , horse racing , falconry and sailing were always there in the UAE , but the way they are practiced today are greatly different than they used to be in the past .
To make a comparison  between  sports and leisure time in the UAE in the past and present , I interviewed my father , so as to get from him information about how they used to practice sports in the UAE , when they were young , and how was that different than today. He started by saying that the UAE people have always been fond of sports, and sports have always been an important part of the culture of the country. He continued saying that the traditional sports in the UAE have always been very popular, and that is why they have managed to survive over the years. When I asked him about his favorite sports and how the way he practices it differs today than it was in the past , he answered mentioning  proudly falconry, and when I asked him why falconry in special, he answered that the true UAE man should has been practiced falconry one day, as it is a dominant part of our culture  . According to  my father , falconry in the past was different than today , as they used to hunt the falcons that they use , and they used to walk in the desert for days  and nights  hunting the small animals like the hares and Houbara , which were  very popular as food . The hunting caravans used to compose of groups of people, who spent the days hunting, and when it was dark they set their tents and camped for night. In the past people used to train their falcons by preventing them from eating, so they were tamed, and my father told
me that he used to interact with his falcon extensively to create good relations with it, as that relation is the base of good falconry. He added that a hood is used to cover the eyes of the bird while kept at home, and then when they go for falconry they remove that hood. When falconry is compared by the situation today, my father said that the risk in the falconry is one of its important features, and in the past that risk was very high, not like today as all matters are under control. Today the falcons are bought not hunted, and they are tamed. There are also professionals who are responsible for the falcons in the falconry trips, not as before when every falconer was responsible for his falcon. Moreover today there are certain authorities in the country responsible for the rights of the falcons and they set rules for that.
He ended his speech saying that he has always been fond of falconry, and he greatly wishes if falconry could return as before.

Reflective essay

This project was very useful; here I’m going to write about what happened there in Alghazal golf club.

We went to Alghazal golf club with a group of students (me, Asaad, Hesham and abdullrhman). Before visiting Alghazal golf club we had been to many places but unfortunately, they rejected us and didn’t allow us to take pictures and record our video. We divided to work in the group so each one should have something to do, I was holding the dates and organized the meeting there, so we can get what we need of information; this decision was made from our leader Asaad. We chose this sport which is golf because it’s a hobby that everyone wants to try. Alghazal golf club is near to the airport and it’s a big place. Firstly we met Ms.Roley and she is the reception. She dealt with us nicely, and let us interview with the manager of Alghazal club Mr.Seyd. We asked him about the club and we collected what we needed of information and we know that the club was built more than 20 years ago. We also met the manager of the photographic section and asked her about the number of the local people they train in the club. I was shocked because many locals are training there, which is unexpected because locals here only like the sport of football. The special thing about this club is that it’s the first club made of desert in the UAE and one of the oldest clubs. We also tried to play this sport (golf) in the club but it was very hard and we can’t even touch the ball with the club. It was a nice experiment and we have tried a new thing. The building is now near the airport, before was inside Abu Dhabi. We decided to go to Alghazal golf because it’s the only place which welcomed us. The trip is related to LSS 3003 with many things. The main things are how to communicate with people and also to try new things. We can’t complete our case study because we don’t know much about this sport so we don’t go deep. My group have worked hard and tried their best so I think a fine case study which can be acceptable. In this case study we faced some problem which will affect our case study, so we should work harder in the next case study and make some changes so we can show a better project, like asking more people and getting more information from them. We also should go to a better known sport so we can ask proper questions.

To sum up, this project was very useful and helpful which let us meet and interview people from other countries and also know new place can be visited to have fun and play golf. This sport should be supported by our government and we should have more clubs for different sports.
